Turmeric in Neuralisse: A Small Dose of a Poorly Absorbed Spice Extract
Neuralisse contains turmeric root extract standardized to 95% curcuminoids, fifth in its blend. Best case, a capsule holds about 43 mg, or about 41 mg of curcuminoids, while trials used 0.5 to 8 g of curcumin. NCCIH says evidence is not enough for any health use. Rare liver injury and a warfarin bleeding risk are the key cautions.

The basics
What is turmeric extract with 95% curcuminoids?
Turmeric is the orange root of Curcuma longa, a plant in the ginger family. It gives curry its color. Its main active compounds are called curcuminoids, and curcumin is the best known of them.
The Neuralisse label lists "Turmeric (Curcuma longa) Rhizome Extract 95% Curcuminoids." A rhizome is an underground stem. "95% curcuminoids" means nearly all of the extract by weight is those compounds, which is far more concentrated than kitchen turmeric powder.
| Label name | Turmeric (Curcuma longa) Rhizome Extract 95% Curcuminoids |
|---|---|
| What it is | Curcuma longa, root extract |
| Position in the blend | 5 of 6 (labels list blend ingredients from most to least by weight) |
| Amount per capsule | Not disclosed. At most about 43 mg (about 41 mg curcuminoids) by label order (part of the 575 mg blend). |
| Amount used in research | 0.5-8 g of curcumin a day in trials; no established dose |
| Strength of evidence | Insufficient (NCCIH) |
| Main use studied | Spice extract studied for inflammation |
| Main caution | Rare liver injury; adds bleeding risk with warfarin and other blood thinners; gallbladder caution. |
Per capsule
How much turmeric is in Neuralisse?
At most about 43 mg of extract per capsule, which works out to about 41 mg of curcuminoids. Trials of curcumin used 0.5 to 8 g a day, with no settled best dose (LPI, Curcumin).
The ceiling comes from blend order. Magnesium glycinate fills roughly 400 to 567 mg of the 575 mg blend, leaving at most about 175 mg for five ingredients (FDA, Labeling guide ch. IV). Turmeric is fourth of those five, so it can hold no more than a quarter of that space.
| Source | Curcuminoids per day | Neuralisse as a share |
|---|---|---|
| One Neuralisse capsule (best case) | About 41 mg | Not applicable |
| Low end of trial doses | 500 mg (0.5 g) | About 8% |
| High end of trial doses | 8,000 mg (8 g) | About 0.5% |
| Optimal dose | Not established | Not known |
Absorption
Does your body absorb turmeric well?
Not very well. Oral curcumin is poorly absorbed and leaves the body quickly, according to the Linus Pauling Institute (LPI, Curcumin). Memorial Sloan Kettering makes the same point (MSKCC, Turmeric).
Some products add piperine, a black pepper extract, to raise absorption. Piperine can also change how the body handles other drugs (LPI, Curcumin). The Neuralisse label lists no piperine or black pepper, and its other ingredients are capsule fillers.
So the dose is small, and only a fraction of it is likely to reach the blood. That lowers the chance of benefit. It may also lower risk, since NCCIH flags highly absorbable curcumin products as the ones more likely to harm the liver (NCCIH, Turmeric).
The research
Is there good evidence for turmeric?
The NIH's complementary health center says the evidence is not strong enough to show turmeric or curcumin helps any health condition (NCCIH, Turmeric). That covers inflammation, joint pain and every other use people buy it for.
We found no trial of turmeric for nerve health that would back its place in a nerve support formula. The label does not explain why it was included, and there is no study of Neuralisse itself.
Turmeric is popular, and many studies exist. Popularity is not proof, though. Most studies were small, short or used doses many times larger than this capsule.
Safety
Can turmeric supplements hurt your liver?
Rarely, yes. A U.S. network that tracks drug-related liver injury described 10 turmeric cases, with 5 hospital stays and 1 death from acute liver failure (DILIN 2023, turmeric liver injury). NCCIH and Memorial Sloan Kettering both note liver injury reports, which usually cleared after people stopped (NCCIH, Turmeric) (MSKCC, Turmeric).

Can you take turmeric with warfarin?
Ask your doctor first. Turmeric may raise bleeding risk when taken with warfarin or other blood thinners (MSKCC, Turmeric). The Linus Pauling Institute also lists aspirin and clopidogrel (LPI, Curcumin).
The amount in Neuralisse is small, but it is not the only concern. The blend also contains CoQ10, which may weaken warfarin's effect. Two ingredients pulling on the same drug in different directions is a good reason for an INR check if your doctor approves.

Who should skip it
Who should not take turmeric?
People with gallbladder problems and pregnant women top the list. Curcumin makes the gallbladder contract, which may be a problem with gallstones or a blocked bile duct (LPI, Curcumin).
- Pregnancy: NCCIH says turmeric supplements may be unsafe in pregnancy (NCCIH, Turmeric). The Neuralisse label already rules out pregnant and nursing mothers.
- Gallbladder disease: ask a doctor before any curcumin product.
- Liver disease: see the liver section above.
- Under 18: the label says not for use.
Our who Neuralisse is for guide walks through each group.

Bottom line
Does the turmeric in Neuralisse do anything?
Nobody can say, because nobody has tested it. The dose is a small fraction of trial amounts, absorption is poor, and NCCIH finds the evidence too weak for any use.
The fair view: it is a well-known spice extract in a low amount, without piperine, which keeps the risk side modest. Still, the liver and blood thinner cautions apply to every curcumin product. If burning, numbness or weakness in your feet or hands is new or spreading, see a doctor, and go quickly if it started suddenly.
FAQ
Turmeric in Neuralisse: common questions
How much turmeric is in Neuralisse?
The label does not print an amount. Turmeric extract is fifth in a 575 mg blend that is mostly magnesium glycinate, so the best case is about 43 mg per capsule, or about 41 mg of curcuminoids. The real amount may be lower.
What does 95% curcuminoids mean?
It means about 95% of the turmeric extract by weight is curcuminoids, the group of compounds that includes curcumin. Plain kitchen turmeric has a much lower share. In Neuralisse, that standard applies to an extract amount the label does not disclose.
Is turmeric good for nerve pain?
No reliable evidence shows it. NCCIH says research is not enough to support turmeric or curcumin for any health condition. Neuralisse has not been tested for nerve pain, and it is not a treatment for neuropathy or any disease.
Is turmeric safe for your liver?
Usually, but rare liver injury has been reported. A U.S. network described 10 cases, including 1 death. Highly absorbable curcumin products carry more concern. Stop and call a doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or pain under the right ribs.
Can I take turmeric with blood thinners?
Check with your doctor first. Turmeric may raise bleeding risk with warfarin, aspirin or clopidogrel. Neuralisse also contains CoQ10, which may change how warfarin works, so your doctor may want to monitor your INR.
Does Neuralisse contain black pepper or piperine?
No piperine or black pepper appears on the Neuralisse label. Its other ingredients are hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, stearic acid and silicon dioxide. Piperine raises curcumin absorption but can also affect how the body handles other drugs.
Can you take turmeric while pregnant?
NCCIH says turmeric supplements may be unsafe during pregnancy. Cooking with turmeric is different from taking a concentrated extract. The Neuralisse label states it is not for pregnant or nursing mothers, so do not take it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
