Neuralisse and Your Medicines: Interactions, Spacing and What to Ask
Neuralisse can interact with several common medicines. Alpha lipoic acid may add to diabetes drugs, turmeric and CoQ10 can affect warfarin, L-carnitine can blunt thyroid hormone, and its 80 mg of magnesium binds bisphosphonates and some antibiotics. Keep those drugs at least 2 hours apart from the capsule, and ask your pharmacist before your first dose.

The short version
Can you take Neuralisse with your medicines?
Often yes, but not without a check first. The label itself says to consult a physician before use, "especially if you are taking a medication or have a medical condition."
Four of the six ingredients have known drug interactions: magnesium, alpha lipoic acid, turmeric and CoQ10. A fifth, L-carnitine, matters for thyroid and seizure medicines. Butcher's broom matters for anyone with diabetes.
The amounts per capsule are small, so many interactions are weaker than in the studies. Weaker is not zero. Blood sugar and warfarin are two areas where small changes count.

Medicine by medicine
Which medicines interact with Neuralisse?
Diabetes medicines and blood thinners top the list. The table names the ingredient behind each concern and what to do about it.
| Medicine | Neuralisse ingredient | What can happen | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insulin and diabetes pills | Alpha lipoic acid, CoQ10, butcher's broom | ALA may add to sugar-lowering drugs and cause lows (MSKCC, Alpha-lipoic acid) (LPI, Lipoic acid); CoQ10 may interact with insulin (NCCIH, CoQ10); butcher's broom is advised against with diabetes (MSKCC, Butcher's broom) | Ask your doctor first. Check blood sugar more often for the first weeks. |
| Warfarin | Turmeric, CoQ10 | Turmeric may raise bleeding risk (MSKCC, Turmeric); CoQ10 has weakened warfarin in a few cases (LPI, CoQ10) | Ask before starting. Your INR may need more frequent checks. |
| Aspirin, clopidogrel | Turmeric | Curcumin may increase bleeding risk (LPI, Curcumin) | Tell your prescriber. Watch for bruising. |
| Thyroid medicine (levothyroxine) | L-carnitine | 2-4 g a day blunted thyroid hormone action in a trial (Benvenga 2001, carnitine & thyroid); a capsule holds at most about 58 mg | Ask your doctor; keep regular thyroid tests. |
| Bisphosphonates (osteoporosis) | Magnesium | Magnesium can block absorption (ODS, Magnesium (HP)) | Keep at least 2 hours apart. |
| Tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics | Magnesium | Magnesium binds them and lowers absorption (ODS, Magnesium (HP)) | Take the antibiotic 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after. |
| Loop and thiazide diuretics | Magnesium | These water pills raise magnesium loss (ODS, Magnesium (HP)) | Ask whether your magnesium level needs checking. |
| Statins | CoQ10 | Statins lower body CoQ10 (MSKCC, CoQ10); CoQ10 has not relieved statin muscle pain (NCCIH, CoQ10) | Keep taking your statin. Do not use CoQ10 as a fix for muscle aches. |
| Valproic acid and some seizure drugs | L-carnitine | These drugs lower carnitine levels (ODS, Carnitine) | Tell your neurologist; never change seizure medicine on your own. |
| Metformin | None directly | Metformin can lower vitamin B12, which can cause tingling (ODS, Vitamin B12); Neuralisse has no B12 | Ask for a B12 blood test. |
Not on the list does not mean safe. Bring every medicine and supplement you take to your pharmacist.
Diabetes
Can diabetics take Neuralisse with insulin or metformin?
Only after a doctor's okay. Alpha lipoic acid may lower blood sugar further when added to insulin or diabetes pills (LPI, Lipoic acid), and butcher's broom is advised against with diabetes after a ketoacidosis case (MSKCC, Butcher's broom).
Metformin is a separate story. It does not clash with any Neuralisse ingredient we know of. But long-term metformin use can drain vitamin B12, and low B12 alone can cause numbness and tingling (ODS, Vitamin B12). A simple blood test answers that question, and Neuralisse contains no B12 to fix it.

Daily timing
How far apart should you take Neuralisse and other medicines?
Two hours covers most cases. Tetracycline and quinolone antibiotics are the exception: take them 2 hours before Neuralisse, or 4-6 hours after (ODS, Magnesium (HP)).
- Breakfast, about 8:00
Take 1 capsule with food and water. The label gives no time; a meal helps CoQ10 absorb.
- The next 2 hours
Keep osteoporosis drugs and tetracycline or quinolone antibiotics away from magnesium by at least 2 hours.
- Evening foot check
Look at both feet every day, even if they feel fine. A yearly foot exam matters more than any capsule.
- Night, 7+ hours
Sleep, movement and steady blood sugar do more for nerves than a supplement can.
Timing is a suggestion; the label only says one capsule daily. Medicine spacing (ODS, Magnesium (HP)); CoQ10 with food (LPI, CoQ10); daily foot checks (CDC, Diabetes and your feet).
| Medicine | Safe window | Example time |
|---|---|---|
| Neuralisse capsule | With a meal | 8:00 breakfast |
| Bisphosphonate | 2+ hours apart | Before 6:00, per its own directions, or after 10:00 |
| Tetracycline or quinolone | 2 hours before, or 4-6 hours after | 6:00, or 12:00 to 14:00 |
| Levothyroxine | Follow your prescriber | Many people take it on waking, before food |

Should you change a prescription to make room for Neuralisse?
No. Never stop, skip or move a prescription dose to fit a supplement. If a timing clash cannot be solved, the supplement is what gives way.
Bring this list
What should you ask a pharmacist about Neuralisse?
A pharmacist can check every interaction in a few minutes, usually for free. Bring the bottle or a photo of the label, plus a list of your medicines.
Is any of my medicine on the interaction list?
Point to alpha lipoic acid, turmeric, CoQ10, L-carnitine, butcher's broom and magnesium on the label.
When should I take it each day?
Ask for a schedule that keeps magnesium away from your antibiotics or bone medicine.
Do I need extra blood tests?
Blood sugar, INR, thyroid levels and B12 are the usual ones to ask about.
Does my total magnesium add up?
Count antacids, laxatives and multivitamins too. The supplement upper limit is 350 mg a day (ODS, Magnesium (HP)).
Next steps
What if you have a reaction while on medicines?
Stop the capsules and call the doctor who prescribes your medicine. Low blood sugar or unusual bleeding needs a same-day call.

FAQ
Neuralisse and medications FAQ
Can I take Neuralisse with metformin?
There is no known direct interaction, but ask your doctor first. Metformin can lower vitamin B12, and low B12 can cause tingling in the feet (ODS, Vitamin B12). Neuralisse contains no B12. If you have diabetes, alpha lipoic acid and butcher's broom also need a doctor's review.
Is Neuralisse safe with a blood thinner such as warfarin?
Only with your prescriber's approval. Turmeric may raise bleeding risk with warfarin, aspirin or clopidogrel (LPI, Curcumin), and CoQ10 has reduced warfarin's effect in a few cases (LPI, CoQ10). Your doctor may want more frequent INR checks after you start.
Can I take Neuralisse with levothyroxine?
Ask your doctor first. L-carnitine acted against thyroid hormone at 2-4 g a day in a trial (Benvenga 2001, carnitine & thyroid). A capsule holds at most about 58 mg, far less, but thyroid doses are fine-tuned. Keep your regular thyroid blood tests.
Can I take Neuralisse with antibiotics?
Yes, with spacing, if the antibiotic is a tetracycline or quinolone. Take the antibiotic at least 2 hours before Neuralisse or 4-6 hours after it, because magnesium binds these drugs (ODS, Magnesium (HP)). Ask your pharmacist which group your antibiotic belongs to.
Can I take Neuralisse with a statin?
No known risky interaction exists, but keep your statin as prescribed. Statins lower the body's CoQ10 (MSKCC, CoQ10), and Neuralisse has at most about 35 mg. CoQ10 at 100-400 mg did not relieve statin muscle pain in a meta-analysis (LPI, CoQ10).
Can I take Neuralisse with gabapentin or other nerve pain medicine?
No specific interaction is listed in the sources we use, but ask your prescriber. Neuralisse is a dietary supplement and not a replacement for nerve pain medicine. Never stop or lower a prescribed dose to try a supplement instead.
